Whether you have flown hundreds of times or are heading to the airport for the very first time, it is completely normal to have questions. Air travel can feel complicated, but understanding a few basics about Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) makes the whole experience smoother and less stressful. From getting between terminals and logging onto Wi-Fi to finding help if you lose an item, this guide covers the most common questions travelers ask.
If you want to dive deeper into the airport layout, parking, and amenities, check out our full Sky Harbor Airport Guide.
Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout public areas and terminals under the network name “Free PHX Boingo WiFi.”
Sky Harbor has more to do than just sit at the gate. For a full list of options, you can explore our layover guide or our PHX airport guide. Some highlights include:
Yes. ATMs are located throughout both Terminal 3 and Terminal 4. Currency exchange services are available in Terminal 4 near baggage claim, making it convenient to grab cash if you are arriving from or departing on an international trip.
International arrivals are handled by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Terminal 4 on Level 3.
To speed things up, you can use the CBP Mobile Passport app (where eligible) to complete parts of your customs declaration in advance and streamline the process once you arrive at the airport.
Same terminal and same secure area: If your connecting flight departs from the same terminal and you remain in the secure area, you typically do not need to go through security again.
Changing terminals or exiting security: If you need to switch terminals and cannot access your next gate within the secure area, or if you leave the secure zone for any reason (baggage claim, meeting someone, etc.), you will have to go through security again.
Always check your boarding pass or airline app to confirm your departure terminal and gate, and give yourself extra time if you need to switch terminals.
A few simple habits make your trip much easier:
Phoenix’s generally favorable weather helps PHX maintain strong on-time performance compared with many other major airports. Delays still happen—especially during peak travel seasons, very hot days, or storms—but outright cancellations are relatively rare.
Checking your flight status directly with your airline (via app, website, or text alerts) is the best way to get real-time updates on gate changes, delays, or early boarding.
Yes. You can choose from on-airport parking and nearby off-site facilities.
If you want to save money and simplify the experience, try a nearby off-site option such as PreFlight Airport Parking. It offers:
Yes. You can get help by phone, text, or in person.
Phone: Call the main customer service line at 602-273-3300.
Text: You can text 602-622-4132 with basic questions about the airport.
Information counters:
If you are unsure where to go next, these desks are a great first stop.
Who to contact depends on where you lost the item:
In common airport areas (terminals, PHX Sky Train, general airport property):
At TSA security checkpoints:
On the aircraft or at your gate: Contact your airline directly, as they manage items left onboard or at their own counters.
Sky Harbor currently does not have dedicated sleep pods. However, some family/unisex restrooms in gate areas include showers, which can be helpful after a long trip or before a red-eye. Check airport signage or ask an information desk for the nearest location.
If you are traveling during holidays, peak weekends, very early mornings, or busy evening banks of flights, add another 30 minutes to be safe.
Sky Harbor is known for its strong accessibility programs and offers support for travelers who are deaf or hard of hearing, have low vision or are blind, or use wheelchairs.
Wheelchair assistance: Request this directly from your airline—either when booking, by calling ahead, or at the airline’s check-in counter. Airport Sky Caps in the curbside drop-off areas can also help coordinate wheelchair service.
Hearing support: Hearing loops (T-coil compatible) are available in certain gate areas (such as portions of the D gates) to make audio announcements clearer.
Additional assistance: Information counters can help coordinate other needs. You can also look for staff wearing a Compassion Cacti lanyard—these team members are specifically trained to offer extra support and patience to travelers who may need it.
Whether you are a seasoned frequent flyer or preparing for your first takeoff, having clear information about Sky Harbor’s terminals, services, and support options can make a big difference in how your trip feels. With a bit of planning—knowing where to park, when to arrive, how to get between terminals, and where to find help—you can turn the airport portion of your journey into one of the smoothest parts of your travel day.
